Meet Brett Mason
I was raised as a Le Sueur County resident in the city of Le Center until about 3rd grade. My family and I then moved to the city of Burnsville where I graduated High School in 1999.
I have a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Viterbo University. During that time, I interned with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and subsequently after that I successfully completed the law enforcement (SKILLS) program at Alexandria Technical College. After passing the licensing exam, I was hired by Sheriff David Gliszinski in 2004. Since that hire date, I have taken every opportunity I could to educate myself and further my career as a Le Sueur County Deputy. I started out as a Le Sueur County Patrol Deputy. I then gained experience in the civil process role. I was trained and licensed as a Search and Rescue Diver. I was appointed to take over responsibility of the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office Policy and Procedure Manual. After completing my assignment, I was briefly assigned to Le Sueur County Investigations and then thereafter appointed to Chief Deputy in 2014. I was appointed to Le Sueur County Sheriff in 2017.
I am married to my wife (Marni) and we reside in Le Center and have three beautiful children, Emma (8), Ryder (6), and Kal ( 4). Marni is an intensive care pediatric nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. I have also had the opportunity to learn from my own family as I come from a long line of Law Enforcement. Both my Great Grandfather, Pat Smith Sr., and Grandfather, Pat Smith Jr., each held the Office of Le Sueur County Sheriff for a combined 48 years. I am very fortunate to have had relationships with both of them and to continue the tradition of treating the public with respect just as they did.
I enjoy spending time with my wife and children. My hobbies including spending time with friends, hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Chairman of the Sheriff’s Youth Project of Le Sueur County (www.sheriffsyouthproject.org) since 2012.
Full-Time Member of Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse since 2007. Held the position as Treasurer/Warrant Officer from 2010-2017.
Member of the North Elysian Silver Lakers Sportsman Club
Member of the Le Center Sportsman’s Club
Member of the Sons of American Legion
